TUC Reiterates January 31 Deadline for Minimum Wage Implementation

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has asked all states governments that are yet to comply with the implementation of the 30,000 naira new National Minimum Wage to do so before January 31 to prevent industrial action.
The president of Union, Quadri Olaleye who revealed this to newsmen in Lagos explained that at present six states has commenced implementation, 15 states are in the process of negotiation, while others are yet to commence negotiation.
Olaleye further added that the union will shut down any state which is yet to begin negotiations and has directed all states to start mobilisation for strike ahead of January 31 in a bid to assure Governors that they are not making empty threat.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), had also said that it would not be able to guarantee industrial peace and harmony in states that failed to conclude negotiations and begin payment of the new minimum wage by December 31.
