No fewer than 16 persons have been arrested in connection with the bloody clash between rival cult groups in Ikere Ekiti which claimed six lives.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Ado Ekiti.
According to him, six corpses have been recovered and deposited at the morgue after the clash which occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
A source in the town said the sound of sporadic gunshots was heard while the attack lasted, forcing members of the community to run for safety.
The police spokesperson explained that the casualties who lost their lives during the incident belonged to one of the cult groups which was attacked by the other apparently on issues of rivalry.
He explained that the Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects in connection to the incident.
According to him, a good number of police officers have been deployed in the town to ensure the restoration of law and order.
