Court remands suspected abductors of Ekiti monarch

An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has remanded two herdsmen in the Correctional Centre for alleged abduction of Obadu of Ilemeso-Ekiti, Oba David Oyewumi.

The suspects, Muhammed Abubakar, 50, and Bello Mohammed, 35, were brought before Magistrate Abdulameen Lawal over their involvement in the alleged abduction of Oba Oyewumi.

They were alleged to have masterminded the invasion of the palace in Ilemeso-Ekiti, Oye local government area on April 15th and abducted the monarch who was later released after payment of ransom.

The prosecutor, Bamikole Olasunkanmi, said the offence is punishable under Sec. 3 (a) of the Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Laws of Ekiti State 2015.

He sought for the order to allow him forward the duplicate case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Magistrate Lawal ordered the suspects to be remanded in the Correctional Centre, Ado-Ekiti pending the time the case would be mentioned.

He adjourned the case to July 14 for commencement of trial.
