Telecommunication Operators Insist Voice Mail Service is not FG Concern

Telecommunications operators in the country have insisted that the voicemail service on mobile telephone lines does not require policy or regulatory intervention from the Federal Government or its agencies.
The Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Gbenga Adebayo who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja, explained that the voicemail service was a basic system feature that does not require the intervention of the government.
Adebayo further added that the voicemail service is a value-added service offered to all willing subscribers, adding that operators are not using the service to exploit Nigerians.
It would be recalled that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami Pantami had ordered the deactivation of voicemail services on all existing phone lines in the country in November, 2019 as operators were using the service to exploit Nigerians.
