NUC Divides Mass Communication Programme

The National Universities Commission (NUC) says that Mass Communication programme in universities has been divided into seven separate degree programmes.
The Director of Corporate Affairs of the Commission, Ibrahim Yakassai who disclosed this to journalists via a phone interview explained that mass communication will still be offered in universities but any university who wishes to offer specialised courses can offer public relations, advertising, cinematography, broadcasting, film and multimedia studies, development communications studies, and information and media studies as degree courses.
Yakassai further disclosed that the division is to meet the growing demand and is expected to take effect from 2020 admissions into Nigerian universities.
Meanwhile, he stated that Mass Communication can still be offered in universities that have not yet developed the full competencies in the areas.
