SERAP Urges NGF to Disclose State Pension Details

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent a Freedom of Information Act request to the Chairman Ekiti state governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, the Deputy Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and other 34 governors, urging them to use their leadership position to disclose the details of payment of pensions to former governors and other ex-officials between 1999 and 2019 under their state’s pension law.
SERAP deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare who made the request in a letter also urged the state governors to provide a copy of their state pension law if it exists while adding that public officials should not encourage, sustain, or implement a pension laws that shows an appearance of conflict of interest or create situation of personal enrichment.
Oluwadare further advised the state governors to repeal such pension law, explaining that it would demonstrate their commitment to public service and the requirements of the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
